AIR is the Artist In Residence program for Dutch and foreign artists. The collaboration with research institutes, high tech businesses and institutes makes this and especially interesting environment for talented artists.
Concrete projects are the development of installations and media art for Image Radio and Strijp-S. In 2008, MADlab has moved into a new space at Strijp-S.
The realized installations, applications and experience are shared through exhibitions, publications, workshops and presentations.
Applications for a two-or three-monthly residency must be accompanied by a proposal submitted to MAD emergent art center.

Living Laboratory
For MAD emergent art center Artist In Residence, Canadian media artist Holly Schmidt is exploring the Strijp–S site as it is being transformed from the Philips Electronics Estates into a Creative City. In order to explore this transformation, she is creating a large-scale architectural model of the NatLab development. Schmidt examines the history of this site as a laboratory for physics research in relation to the current development of the site as a creative laboratory for living and working.

Céline de Waal Malefijt has won the first prize with her idea and prototype of Transit Mantra. The professional jury decided to reward her with the first Brains Award. The development of Transit Mantra is realised during her Artist in Residence period atMAD, Spring 2009.
